Cornwall Artists Declare

We now have a newly refreshed Lynher Valley website, but this time with a climate and ecology focus, and including Cornwall Artists Declare. So here are the links: www.lynhervalley.co.uk and www.cornwallartistsdeclare.co.uk I hope that artists across Cornwall will join us in declaring a climate and ecological emergency. We are adding our voices and actions to the millions of others around the globe to declare a climate and ecological emergency, and call for immediate governmental action to protect all life on Earth.  We call on governments to act now to find the means to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions and reverse biodiversity loss by no later than 2030.We call on… Read More

Climate Emergency Action

I’m now part of a parish working group to raise awareness about Climate Emergency and encourage action – we all need to do things differently. I have been looking at this for many years, having been part of the Green Tourism Scheme (Gold Award for my tourism accommodation here in Cornwall). So lots of the changes and suggestions I looked at then are now part of my daily life choices. For our parish Climate Emergency Action first event I have compiled a list: ‘50 Things We Can Do‘ which I hope will provide starting points for everyone new to this pathway of making better choices, and also encouraging even more… Read More

Three Demands Bill

A global hunger strike is taking place by some Extinction Rebellion members – it began on 18 November and involved 526 people in 28 countries, 263 of whom were in the UK. The activists have vowed not to eat until party leaders support their climate emergency bill – a “three demands bill” has been drafted; it would require the future prime minister to declare a climate emergency, commit to net zero emissions by 2025 and establish a citizens’ assembly. The UK group of Extinction Rebellion has three core demands: 1) Tell the truthThe government must tell the truth about the scale of the ecological crisis by declaring a climate emergency, “working with… Read More

climate emergency

I was utterly dismayed that our parish council voted 7:1 against joining Cornwall Council and other parishes in declaring a Climate Change Emergency (North Hill PC September 2019) So I ands 17 others sent a letter and attended the following month’s meeting, but to no avail, no change in their views. The one parish councillor that voted ‘for’ was Adrian Parsons, a local farmer, County Councillor and member of the Cornwall Council working group on climate. We’re setting up an autonomous group, North Hill Climate Action Group (or something like that) Our letter to North Hill Parish Council, 3/10/2019 Dear Parish Councillors We are writing in support of the one Parish… Read More

Greta Thunberg

“The Greta Thunberg problem’ so many men freaking out about the tiny Swedish climate demon” The First Dog on the Moon and ‘The Greta Thunberg Problem’, published today in The Guardian – an amazing young person and my favourite cartoon: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/sep/27/the-greta-thunberg-problem-so-many-men-freaking-out-about-the-tiny-swedish-climate-demon And her speech at the European Parliament on Tuesday (16 April), Greta urges MEPs to “start panicking about climate change” rather than “waste time arguing about Brexit”.
