Abstract - colour, texture, shape, line

  • Notes

I walk each day, from the studio across the field to my woodland, looking to the skyline and wonderful trees. Other days may be along lanes and footpaths, setting out to reach a particular point in the valley or up to the open moorland and the rugged tors.on the hills.

It's for the colours, the weather, the landscapes, solitary experiences of walking and observing. On some days there are chance encounters - coming face to face with a beautiful fox and we looked at each other for a few seconds before the fox casually trotted on to cross the road ahead of me and into the woodland. I've watched a deer, early morning, in my garden.

And the coast of north Cornwall always calls. So I regularly drive that way, finding a quiet spot to park and walk to the cliffs.

My paintings are also experiences, as colour, line and texture become elements within a composition. The canvas may invite unplanned routes, intuitive mark-making, still responding to these landscapes, as well as wanting to celebrate the natural world around me (whilst knowing the serious problems of our human impact on the the planet) and this amazing environment.
