At the National Gallery, London

This exhibition was such a treat. Here a just a few of the beautiful paintings and drawings at this wonderful event.

Van Gogh chose a great variety of motifs from the public garden in from of his home in Arles, in the south of France, and later within the confines of the hospital of St-Paul de Mausole at Saint-Remy-de-Provence. He aimed to convey meaning rather than accuracy, recording nature freely, adjusting compositions and sometimes adding figures.

It's a hundred years since the National Gallery purchased the Sunflowers, and this exhibition is the chief among many events celebrating the gallery's bicentenary,
