a buzz in the meadow

Jill Goodman • 14 July 2020

I walk across the meadow everyday, nor just for exercise but also the joy of seeing nature's colours, seeing insect life amongst the wild flowers and grasses, bramble patches, hedgerow scrub and the majesty of maturing trees.

Leaving the meadow to grow without cutting or grazing for the spring and summer of this year, and now we are seeing the wonderful biodiversity. The roe deer enjoys this meadow, as well as hedgehog and other small mammals. The uncut grasses sway in the breeze attracting insects, the colours of wild flowers are dotted amongst the grasses, and on the brambles and thistle patch butterflies settle and spread their wings.

These images are from this mornings walk, and include:
butterflies - peacock, large white, comma, ringlet, meadow brown
flowers - white and red clover, thistle, bramble, bird's-foot trefoil, various from the daisy family, buttercup, and more yet to be identified.

Post title borrowed from the book by Dave Coulson, A Buzz in the Meadow, published in 2014.
