rocks at Millook

Inspiring my next theme: the rocks and strata at Millook, north Cornwall

A fantastic walk down the valley to reach Millook - where my great grandfather was born. As children we were told stories of the donkeys carrying wood and seaweed collected from the beach, back to the farm and the fields.

The sea was calm and tide was low, so I was able explore the rocks that are usually under the  breaking waves of Atlantic surf.

I found these rocks particularly interesting. Layers of rock tilted, and striped, with indentations, cracks and small pools gradually forming as the sea washes over.

So back in the studio, I'm re-working a canvas that has been waiting for maybe 6 months, not knowing where to go with it. I think I've found my next theme.

Here is a detail from work in progress.

The colours already established on the canvas, and I'll continue with now, adding the flowing lines created by the water, and criss-crossing of the the minerals in the rocks - I'll have to research what these are.
